Rank Order of RussianFederation Military Ranks
[The following table of Ranks isbased on those of the Russian Federation. The Russian Federation eliminated thedescriptor "of Aviation" following ranks, however, that descriptor isstill in use. The rank of a serviceman of a "Guards" unit,formation or ship may be followed by the word “Guards.” The rank of acitizen of the legal, medical or veterinary professions shall be followed bythe words “of Justice,” “of the Medical Corps,” or “of the Veterinary Corps,”respectively. The rank of a citizen having reserve or retired statusshall be followed by the words “Reserve” or “Retired,” respectively.]
[By Presidential Decree of 27 Jan 1997. Therank of "Marshal of the Russian Federation" was eliminated (thoughthose already awarded the rank are allowed to wear the Marshal’s single largestar). General and Flag officers’ rank insignia were altered so thatgenerals of the Army and admirals of the Fleet now wear four stars,Colonels-General three stars, Lieutenants-General two stars and Majors-Generalone star.
