Beginning his seventh season alongside U-M head coach Dusty May, Brandon Gilbert serves as the assistant to the head coach. With the Wolverines, Gilbert is involved in all facets of the program including assisting the staff in recruiting, scouting, film and analytics.
With a 14-year career in collegiate basketball, Gilbert spent the last six seasons (2018-24) with May at Florida Atlantic University as the assistant to the head coach after spending four seasons (2014-18) as the Director of Basketball Operations at Samford University.

During each of Gilbert’s six seasons with Florida Atlantic, the Owls achieved winning seasons to become the first staff in program history to achieve six consecutive winning campaigns. Gilbert helped FAU post a 126-69 record, with four postseason appearances, and two straight 20-plus win seasons. In Gilbert’s final two seasons with the program, FAU accumulated a remarkable 60 total wins.
In the historic 2022-23 season, Gilbert and the Owls' staff led FAU to what is undoubtedly the greatest season in program history. After Florida Atlantic won both the Conference USA regular-season (18-2) and tournament titles, the Owls earned the school's second-ever invitation to the NCAA Tournament -- first since 2002 -- and went on to reach the program's first-ever Final Four.
After a last-second win over Memphis (66-65) in the first round, FAU moved on to the Sweet 16 following a 78-70 win over Fairleigh Dickinson, who upset No. 1-seeded Purdue two days prior. During the second weekend, the Owls dispatched Tennessee (62-55) and held off Kansas State (79-76) to win the East Region and advance to the Final Four in Houston. Unfortunately, with the title game in its grasp, the Owls fell to San Diego State, who sank a buzzer-beating shot to defeat FAU, 57-56.
Closing the season with a 35-4 record, FAU posted the most wins in all of NCAA Division I that season and was only three wins shy of the single-season Division I record.

Before heading to Boca Raton, Gilbert spent four seasons at Samford under Scott Padgett as his Director of Basketball Operations. With the Bulldogs, Gilbert helped transform the Bulldog program to new heights, including Samford's first win over a Big Ten opponent -- at Nebraska (69-58; Dec. 20, 2015).
During the 2016-17 season, Gilbert helped the Bulldogs achieve their first 20-win season in 11 years, closing 20-16 for the fifth 20-plus win season in program history. That same season, Samford earned its first postseason appearance in 17 years heading to the CIT. The Bulldog's first-round win against Canisius (78-74, March 14, 2017) marked Samford’s first Division-I postseason victory in the history of the program.

Beginning his collegiate basketball career, Gilbert spent three seasons (2011-14) as a graduate assistant under legendary coach Billy Donovan at the University of Florida. During his three seasons, Florida compiled a 91-22 record with three straight trips to at least the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight. In fact, after back-to-back regional finals (2012 & 2013), the Gators advanced to the 2014 Final Four for the first time in seven years.
While in Gainesville, Gilbert was part of back-to-back SEC regular-season titles in 2013 (14-4) and 2014 (18-0). Florida achieved SEC Conference history in the 2014 regular season by becoming the first team ever to record a perfect conference mark. That same season, the Gators went on totheir fourth SEC Tournament title and closed the season with a program record 36 wins (36-3), just the third 30-plus win season at Florida. The Gators were only two wins shy of the single-season Division I record in 2014.
