How To Make Chocolate Cheesecake Dessert

Step One: Graham Cracker Crust

First, crush the graham crackers to make them into crumbs. Use a food processor or crush them in a gallon-sized ziptop bag with a rolling pin.

Pour graham cracker crumbs, sugar, and melted butter into a bowl and stir until combined. Use the back of a measuring cup to press the mixture in a 9×13 inch pan.

Step Two: Cheesecake Layer

In a large bowl beat the softened cream cheese. Once the cream cheese is light and fluffy add sugar, eggs, and vanilla.

Pour the mixture over the chocolate crust. Use a rubber spatula to get all of the mixture out of the bowl. Place the pan in the oven and bake at 375 degrees for 20 – 25 minutes. Let the cheesecake layer cool completely before adding the chocolate pudding.

Step Three: Chocolate Pudding Layer

Beat two packages of instant chocolate pudding mix and milk until smooth. Once the cheesecake layer has cooled, use a rubber spatula to spread the chocolate pudding on top of it.

Step Four: Cool Whip Layer

Top the chocolate pudding with cool whip. If you place several spoonfuls around the pan before spreading, you will be able to get an even layer.

Step Five: Mini Chocolate Chips

For a final touch, sprinkle mini chocolate chips over the layer of cool whip.

Chocolate Cheesecake Dessert Recipe FAQs

Any pudding that you can buy! See my recipe for Banana Cheesecake Dessert using banana pudding here. I also want to try key lime pudding, lemon pudding, and coconut cream pudding.

2. Would other kinds of graham crackers be good in the crust? Yes! Another way to change the recipe is by changing the kind of crust you use. Try cinnamon, vanilla, or chocolate graham crackers.

3. Can I use whipped cream instead of Cool Whip? Yes, if time allows, make four cups of whipped cream to use in place of the Cool Whip.

4. What can I do to lighten this recipe? For a lighter version, try using 1/3 less fat cream cheese, replace a portion of the sugar with a sugar alternative, use sugar-free chocolate pudding mix, and use light Cool Whip. But keep in mind that any alterations may change how the cheesecake turns out.

5. Can this cheesecake be made in a different size pan? Yes, but depending on the thickness of the cheesecake batter the cooking time may be altered.

FAQs

How do you make cheesecake filling harder? ›

Increase the Amount of Cream Cheese: Adding more cream cheese to the filling can help thicken it. This will also enhance the richness and flavor of the cheesecake. Add Sour Cream: Incorporating sour cream into the filling can add thickness and tanginess. It also helps create a smooth and creamy texture.

Why is cheesecake the best dessert? ›

The delicate balance and textures of flavors are amazing. The sweetness and the salt going perfectly together is what makes this dessert so unique and is the main reason behind the popularity of cheesecakes.

What happens when you over mix cheesecake? ›

Make sure to add eggs one by one on low speed and mix until just combined. Over mixing the eggs will incorporate too much air into the batter, which will result in the cheesecake deflating and possibly cracking when it comes out of the oven.

What is traditional cheesecake made from? ›

Cheesecake is a dessert made with a soft fresh cheese (typically cottage cheese, cream cheese, quark or ricotta), eggs, and sugar. It may have a crust or base made from crushed cookies (or digestive biscuits), graham crackers, pastry, or sometimes sponge cake.

What is classic cheesecake made of? ›

This recipe makes a classic New York-style cheesecake with a buttery graham cracker crust and rich, dense filling made from cream cheese, eggs, sugar, sour cream, vanilla, a hint of lemon, and a few tablespoons of flour. Cream cheese is the key ingredient, so I recommend using a good brand, like Philadelphia.

Is cheesecake healthier than chocolate cake? ›

Cheesecake typically has about the same calories as an iced chocolate cake and roughly 30 per cent fewer calories than a chocolate mud cake. It also has on average 2-3 times as much calcium, less sugar and more protein than either kind of chocolate cake.

How is cheesecake different from cake? ›

Crust Base: Unlike most cakes, cheesecake is commonly placed on a crust made of crushed cookies or graham crackers. This crust serves as a foundation, similar to the crust of a pie, setting cheesecake apart from the typical cake structure.

Is cheesecake a cheese or a cake? ›

Cheesecake is just one of the desserts that falls into the category of having “cake” in the name despite possibly not being a cake at all from a pure definition standpoint. Cheesecake is typically made with a cheese like ricotta, cream cheese, or Neufchatel (a creamy French cheese).

Is cheesecake actually cake or pie? ›

By Merriam-Webster's definition, cake is a bread-like dessert that's baked from a thick batter. And cheesecake's qualities don't fit that bill. On the other hand, while cheesecake is closer to a pie given its crust and filling structure, it doesn't quite fit alongside those types of flaky desserts either.
