BBC Studios will once again produce the BBC’s coverage of the biggest and most watched song competition in the world following the 67th Eurovision Song Contest which was hosted by the BBC in Liverpool, on behalf of Ukraine in May 2023.

Following Loreen’s victory in Liverpool with the song Tattoo, the 68th edition of the Contest will be taking place in Sweden, culminating in the Grand Final which will be broadcast live from Malmö Arena. This will be the seventh time Sweden hosts the Contest and this year it'll be hosted by a Hollywood star and an iconic Eurovision-veteran; Malin Åkerman and Petra Mede will together lead the three broadcasts, live from Malmö Arena.

All three live programmes - both Semi Finals and the Grand Final - will once again be broadcast live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in 2024.

On Tuesday 7 and Thursday 9 May, the Eurovision 2024 Semi-Finals were hosted by commentators Scott Mills and Rylan, live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, while over on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds Richie Anderson took the reins for the first time and led commentary on the airwaves.

Eurovision 2024 Semi-Final 1

The First Semi-Final took place on 7 May 2024 and 15 countries competed with 10 (in bold) qualifying for the Grand Final.

Benjamin Ingrosso, who previously represented Sweden at Eurovision, performed during the interval.

Eurovision 2024 Semi-Final 2

The Second Semi-Final took place on 9 May 2024 and 16 countries competed with 10 (in bold) qualifying for the Grand Final.

Audiences in the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden and non participating countries grouped in a 'Rest of the World' category were able to vote in this Semi-Final, along with audiences from the participating countries.

In the Second Semi-Final, the audience had the opportunity to participate in the world's biggest sing along, together with three iconic Eurovision queens – Helena Paparizou, Sertab Erener and Charlotte Perrelli.

United Kingdom to performsong in fullin Semi-Final for first time

For the very first time, the artists from the Big Five countries - France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom - plus host nation Sweden - each perform their entries in full live during the Semi-Finals. Olly Alexander performed the United Kingdom’s song Dizzy during the First Semi-Final on Tuesday 7 May 2024.

Thesethree additional performances in each Semi-Final are be slotted in between the competing countries’ acts. The Big Five plus Sweden automatically qualify for the Grand Final, so whilst they perform their songs in full live, these countries will notcompete for votes in the Semi-Finals and will not be part of the Semi-Finalvotingsequences.

On Saturday 11 May, the Grand Final will be hosted by commentator Graham Norton, live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Over on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds, Scott Mills and Rylan will be leading the commentary on the airwaves.

Eurovision 2024 Voting Window Changes

During the Grand Final on Saturday 11 May, voting will open just before the first song is performed. Viewers at home will be able to cast their votes as the songs are performed, rather than waiting until all entries have been presented, as has been the case since public voting was introduced in 1997 (except in 2010 and 2011 when voting also began at the start of the show).

Olly Alexander, will represent the United Kingdom at the 68th Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden in May 2024.

Olly revealed the news during the Grand Final of BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday 16 December 2023 to a delighted studio audience and to the millions of viewers watching at home.

Olly's UK Eurovision song, Dizzy, is co-written with Danny L Harle.

Joanna Lumley is the UK Jury spokesperson for Eurovision 2024

Multi-award winning actor, Joanna Lumley, will be joining the BBC Eurovision family as the United Kingdom’s Eurovision spokesperson, where she will deliver the results of the UK’s National Jury live during the Grand Final on Saturday 11 May 2024.

A long term fan of Eurovision, Joanna Lumley is already getting into the mood for her iconic Spokesperson role. Joanna says: “Good Evening Malmö, it's Joanna here! I am delighted to be announcing the jury vote for the UK at this year's Eurovision. It's such a fabulous honour to give the iconic 'douze points'!"

Olly Alexander’s Road to Eurovision ‘24

This revealing film follows high profile pop star, Olly Alexander, as he navigates the road to representing the United Kingdom at the biggest song contest in the world, the Eurovision Song Contest.

In the months leading up to the competition, the cameras are given exclusive access to Olly as he prepares for one of the most important performances of his life. We see Olly embark on the Eurovision promotional circuit as he releases his song, “Dizzy”. He must juggle huge press attention, and perform at Eurovision Pre-Parties in Madrid and London, whilst preparing for the big event in May, at the Malmö Arena in Sweden.
