The Evil Dead franchise is officially back, and it's bringing yet another fright of a movie. When the last film debuted in theaters a decade ago in 2013, no one expected for creator Sam Raimi to have a renewed focus on a series that started back in 1981. Today, with yet another dose of nostalgia, fans of the horror genre are gearing up to watch the continuation via Evil Dead Rise.
Directed by Lee Cronin, the film follows Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) a young woman who lives with her three children in a Los Angeles apartment. When her sister Beth (Lily Sullivan) drops in for a visit, an earthquake hits their building and leaves a hole in the parking lot. The kids investigate and realize that they hold the Book of the Dead, which unleashes an evil spirit that finds and possesses Ellie. Will she wreak havoc on the family and lose everything she's worked for, or will everyone make it out alive?
It's definitely an intriguing concept, and longtime viewers will want to see it in any way they can. But for those who are wondering how to watch and stream Evil Dead Rise from their home, it will be a while before that happens. Presently, the only way someone can watch Evil Dead Rise is if they head to a showing at a local movie theater. But fear not, fans of the horror film genre. It will most likely hit a streamer in the near future, and it's one many have access to already.
The latest flick in the popular franchise is currently being distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, the same company that released the previous ones as well. What's more, the production studio announced plans to merge HBO Max and Discovery+ to create one super streaming site, containing all the titles both platforms already have. Between Warner Bros. producing new content and the news of a new place for viewers to watch their favorite shows and movies, it's highly probable that Evil Dead Rise will live on the new Max streaming platform.
As for when Evil Dead Rise will land on a streamer, that's currently up for discussion. Before Warner Bros. announced the merger, it had a deal with HBO Max that allowed its projects to drop at least 45 days after premiering in theaters. Should a similar agreement be in place, fans can expect to watch it from home starting the first weekend of June 2023.
If and when Evil Dead Rise does make its way to Max, you'll need an account to access it. According to a report from Collider, the pricing will remain the same as HBO Max. Meaning, folks can opt into plans starting at $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year. Once you're all set, you can go to the movie title page on the official streaming site or the Max app.
