Gundersen Health System has an opening in the Operating Room

As a Level 2 Trauma Center, the Surgery Department is a fast-paced unit with 18 state-of-the-art operating rooms and 2 labor and delivery suites with cutting-edge surgical equipment. We provide a wide range of surgical procedures, including robotic-assisted and minimally invasive surgeries to populations ranging from neonates to adults. The multidisciplinary team includes RNs, surgeons, anesthesia staff, and surgical technologists. As a nurse, you will play a direct role in providing LOVE + MEDICINE for a broad range of patients in the Operating Room. Registered Nurses in the OR circulate and may scrub for surgeries while caring for patient’s one-on-one being their advocate and anticipating their needs during the surgery.

What you will do:

  • Fulltime, 72 hours biweekly (0.9 FTE)
  • This position has the flexibility to be 9 or 12-hour shifts, however during orientation you will be scheduled for 9-hour shifts
  • 9-hour shift: primarily day shifts (6:15am-3:45pm) with some PM and nights shifts, could be up to 6 off shifts within a 6-week scheduling period. Occasional weekend shifts as needed per unit need (cover PTO, FML, or vacations)
  • 12-hour shift: primarily day shifts (6:15am-6:45pm) with occasional night or weekend shifts as needed per unit need (cover PTO, FML, or vacations)
  • Night and Weekend call rotation. Call response time is 60 minutes or less
  • Holiday Rotation: 1-2 holidays per year

What You'll Need:

  • Associate's degree or Bachelors degree in Nursing
  • An active RN license to work in Wisconsin
  • Current BLS for Health Care Providers
  • Prior RN experience is preferred

Job Description:

The registered nurse (RN) focuses on the health and wellness of individuals, families and populations in collaboration with other health care professionals by incorporating evidence-based practice in the management of acute illness, chronic disease, disability, and end-of-life care. The RN utilizes the nursing process and aligns practice with organizational policies, professional nursing standards and regulatory practice acts.

Major Responsibilities:

1.Assessment: Systematically and holistically assesses the patient’s physiological, emotional, sociocultural, spiritual, and financial status while considering lifestyle preferences and learning needs.
2. Planning: Collaborates with patients, families, and health care professionals to develop a patient-centered plan of care to promote health and optimize wellness.
3. Intervention: Provides competent and innovative patient care and education based on patient complexity, acuity, and nursing judgment within a culture of caring and safety.
4. Documentation: Documents nursing assessment, planning, interventions, implementation, and patient/family response.
5. Evaluation: Determines patient's progress toward achieving goal(s), and revises plan of care in collaboration with patient/family as needed.
6. Delegation and Supervision: The RN delegates, supervises and evaluates the effectiveness of tasks performed by Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) or Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) who have the knowledge and skill to perform the task, taking into consideration the following:

  • scope of practice
  • training
  • competence
  • population served
  • experience
  • policies and procedures

7. Leadership: Guides, directs and influences others by participating in activities such as:

  • quality improvement, evidence-based practice and research
  • shared governance (council structure)
  • department-based projects
  • continual learning

8.Professional and Organizational Responsibilities:

License and Certifications:

REQUIRED
Registered Nurse (RN) licensed minimally in the state of practice, some positions may require additional state RN licenses.
Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
