What's Available:

  • Full Time (1.0 FTE, 40 hours/week)
  • Shift: Days, Monday-Friday (occasional evenings) - (Hours between 7:00AM - 6:30PM)

What do you need:

  • 2 years of experience working in a healthcare related field (paramedic or higher) and 6 months working with simulation or professional organization such as American Heart Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, Crisis Prevention Institute, and Emergency Nurses Association
  • 2 years of related experience coordinating, leading or supervising

Job Description:

The Simulation Specialist will work collaboratively with the Integrated Center for Education (ICE house) Manager, leadership, faculty, staff and external participants across the institution and accrediting bodies to ensure evidence-based clinical standards and simulation best practices are reflected in all simulation activities, including certification courses. This position is responsible for day-to-day operations of the healthcare simulation programs, including site-based processes, logistics and operations, instructor assignments, and communications with faculty and staff. This position will directly oversee certification training and education within the necessary time frames, budget parameters, and adhere to course standards and regulatory requirements as set by professional organizations such as the American Heart Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, Crisis Prevention Institute, and Emergency Nurses Association. They will also be able to set-up, operate and manipulate human patient simulation manikins, multimedia, computer and related equipment. The Simulation Specialist will continually assess and direct wide range issues and updates including long range planning, recruiting/developing/maintaining instructors, analyzing administrative workflow, maintaining databases, and managing internal and external relations.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Oversee and manage day-to-day operation of the healthcare simulation programs, including site-based processes, logistics and operations, instructor assignments, and communications with faculty and staff.
2. The Simulation Specialist will work collaboratively with the ICE House Manager, leadership, faculty, staff and external participants across the institution and accrediting bodies to ensure evidence-based clinical standards and simulation best practices are reflected in all simulation activities, including certification courses.
3. Partner with the ICE House Manager to recruit, develop and maintain competencies for all Simulation Technicians, Training Center Instructors and faculty for all certification courses to adhere to course standards and regulatory requirements
(i.e. BLS, ACLS, ALSO, CPI, ENPC, PALS, NRP, CPR, First Aid, etc.)
4. Executes simulation experiences with human patient simulation manikins and specimens for the purposes of educating students, Gundersen Health System staff and external participants.
5. Develop and manage the proper handling, documentation and instructor orientation/hours/schedules in accordance with all accrediting agency guidelines.
6. Make timely revisions to schedules and coordinate changes with internal and external departments to ensure coverage for all healthcare simulation programs, including certification courses
7. Oversee coordination and administration of all certification course examinations and completion in accordance with regulatory requirements
8. Utilizes data to manage, develop, evaluate and improve program curriculum in response to healthcare trends, needs, organizational goals and accrediting agency guidelines while promoting marketing and growth of the Integrated Center for Education.
9. . Maintains and operates high tech computers, simulators and clinical equipment. Reports equipment malfunctions to ICE House manager or Simulation Lab Coordinator to ensure timely repair.
10. Maintains own AHA Provider and Instructor status by teaching a minimum of two ACLS, BLS, PALS courses a year and attends course updates per AHA guidelines.
11. Performs other job-related responsibilities as requested.

Education and Learning:

REQUIRED

Bachelor's degree in a health-related field or information technologies or Education

Work Experience:

REQUIRED

2 years of experience working in a healthcare related field (paramedic or higher) and 6 months working with simulation or professional organization such as American Heart Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, Crisis Prevention Institute, and Emergency Nurses Association

2 years of related experience coordinating, leading or supervising

DESIRED

2 years of experience working in simulation or professional organization such as American Heart Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, Crisis Prevention Institute, and Emergency Nurses Association

1 year as a certified instructor for AHA, AAP, ENA or CPI programs

License and Certifications:

REQUIRED

Must obtain within six months of hire:

Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Must obtain Instructor Status for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within one year of hire date

DESIRED

Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Instructor, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Instructor, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Instructor from the Prevention Institute (CPI), and current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider Instructor CPR certification; or the American Red Cross Instructor CPR certification (CPR)
