I love to come up with copycat recipes for our favorite restaurant recipes and I am glad I decided to make this copycat brownie recipe. The ingredients are simple and everything combines in one bowl making this an easy recipe to make.

Tips for Starbucks Double Chocolate Brownies:

  • Cocoa Powder – Make sure when adding the cocoa powder to the mixture that there is no lumps. You may need to sift in the cocoa powder to the egg mixture.
  • Chocolate Chips – We used chocolate chips in this recipe, but you can also use chocolate chunks. We recommend staying with semi-sweet so the chewy brownies are not to sweet. You can also use dark chocolate chips.
  • Oil – When we make this recipe, we stick with the unsalted butter ingredient. We do not recommend using vegetable oil or canola oil.
  • Brownies to Cool – After the fudgy brownies are done baking, allow them to cool before serving.
  • Brownie Batter – Do not overmix the batter and combine only until well mixed. It will be thick but this is normal.

What does adding milk instead of water do to brownies? ›

One change is to use milk or heavy cream instead of water. This change will make brownies more moist and gooey since milk is more fatty and flavorful than water. A second change is to use butter instead of oil. For similar reasons to using milk, butter adds a rich and more decadent quality to the batter.

This is because chocolate, particularly milk chocolate, contains a lot of sugar, including lactose, milk proteins and fat – all of which can cause symptoms in susceptible persons.

How to doctor up boxed brownie mix? ›

Add Salt. If you've ever found boxed brownies to be too sweet for your taste, stir a pinch of salt into the batter before baking. This'll help bring out the deeper chocolate flavors. You can even try sprinkling some flaky sea salt on top of the brownies as soon as they come out of the oven.

What makes brownies fudgy vs cakey? ›

Fudgy brownies have a higher fat-to-flour ratio than cakey ones. So add more fat—in this case, butter and chocolate. A cakey batch has more flour and relies on baking powder for leavening. The amount of sugar and eggs does not change whether you're going fudgy or cakey.
