Hold onto your hats, Ted Lasso fans! Toheeb Jimoh, the charismatic actor who plays Sam Obisanya, has just shared his hopes for the show's highly anticipated fourth season, and it's got us all buzzing. The Emmy-winning sitcom, which follows the journey of the relentlessly optimistic American football coach Ted Lasso as he navigates the world of British soccer, is set to bring back its beloved ensemble cast, including Jason Sudeikis as the titular character, along with Hannah Waddingham, Nick Mohammed, Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift. But what does Jimoh envision for the future of AFC Richmond?
During a recent interview with People magazine, Jimoh, at 28 years old, playfully suggested a rather dark plot twist: "A funeral for Sam!" Thankfully, he quickly clarified that he was joking. What he really wants is for Ted to finally achieve a major victory. "I want Ted to actually win something," he stated, playfully critiquing Ted's philosophy of prioritizing the journey over the destination. "Win a trophy, bro!"
And this is the part most people miss...Jimoh's playful wish highlights a core tension within the show: Ted's unwavering positivity versus the competitive nature of professional sports. Could a trophy win force Ted to re-evaluate his core beliefs? "Can you imagine his entire philosophy changes?" Jimoh mused. "Great, we’ll get like three more seasons. I’m down for that. Let’s have a revenge arc for Ted Lasso."
Ted Lasso concluded its initial three-season run in 2024, leaving fans craving more. But the story isn't over. In 2025, Sudeikis revealed a major twist: Ted will be coaching a women's team. The first three seasons saw Ted's move from Kansas City to Richmond, U.K., to coach AFC Richmond. The series' finale saw Ted return to the US to deal with personal matters, while Roy Kent (Goldstein) took over as assistant coach alongside Coach Beard (Hunt). The new season will pick up where the last one left off, with the first episode shooting in Kansas City. The official logline teases: "Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would."
Over its initial run, Ted Lasso received a staggering 61 Emmy nominations and won 13 awards, with Sudeikis earning lead actor in a comedy series trophies in 2021 and 2022.
But here's where it gets controversial... Will the shift to coaching a women's team fundamentally change the show's dynamic? Will Ted's positivity be enough to overcome the challenges of a new team and a new environment? What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below! And, what do you think about Ted's coaching philosophy? Does it need a shake-up, or is it perfect as is? Let's discuss!
