The 7 best sunsets in St. Augustine (2024)

Caps on the Water, located in Vilano Beach, is a popular seafood restaurant known for its stunning sunset views and delicious oyster bar. Situated along the Intracoastal Waterway, it offers a wooden deck where diners can enjoy the picturesque scenery. Another noteworthy waterfront eatery nearby is Aunt Kates, which has been serving Menorcan dishes and fresh seafood for over a century.

Loved it!!! Went for our anniversary and loved every minute. We knew they did not take reservations so planned accordingly. The valet team is FANTASTIC!! Got parked and knew it would be an hour wait. No problem!! They make sure you know where to get a drink while waiting. Beautiful views. Got seated right on the dot when they said we would. Matt the server was fantastic and knowledgeable. Helped us order and super attentive. Got dinner right at sunset on st paddy's day. BEAUTIFUL. Will be back!!!

We were there in line waiting for them to open!. There is complimentary valet and we were sat quickly where we asked to be seated over on the right side overlooking the water. It was a cloudy day. A little hot but great place to sit IMO.. the food was great. We shared the seafood trio and a side order of Belgium fries ( they tasted like good fries?) and salad. It was a lot of food for 2 people. 👍🍽️

Had one of the best dining experiences in my life at Cap's on the Water. Our server , Brandon, was extremely knowledgeable and attentive. He made fantastic recommendations to compliment our meal. The sunset view was spectacular especially from under the Spanish moss covered trees. The Crab Louie appetizer was delicious. I had the crab topped grouper as my entree and my husband had the fish n' chips with truffle fries. The co*cktail sauce, black garlic aoili and honey butter all were perfect compliments to the fish n chips and were homemade. We will definitely be back. If you visit ask for Brandon as your server. His service really was stellar.

Great place off the beaten path. Free Valet parking. The staff is wonderful. The whole restaurant is laid out nicely. A couple romantic spots and some bar seating with a dock you can boat up to and enjoy your meal as well.Stopped in for a quick bite on the way to the airport. What a wonderful treat. The she crab soup was perfectly paired with the truffle fries. Highly recommend caps if you have not yet experienced it.

Only gone twice now, since it’s about an hour away from home, but if I could go there all the time I would! Food is AMAZING, so fresh and flavorful. Drinks are very good, service has been great so far. My only complaint would be that you can’t make reservations and although the restaurant is very big, there can be pretty long wait times. Thankfully they move pretty quick and you seem to usually be sat before the time they tell you. If you’re willing to wait a little longer get the waterfront seating. During sunset is best! Can’t wait to go back:)

Pretty cool place. Complimentary valet parking and super friendly staff. Went at high time on Sunday night so it was crowded (90 minute wait for waterfront seating) but my group didn’t care where we were so we got seated immediately indoor near the bar. Really quiet in that room and good food/drinks. Got raw oysters, sesame crusted tuna, and a bourbon craft co*cktail. Kinda pricey but not unreasonable for seafood and I really enjoyed my meal.

If you're looking for a dining experience that combines friendly service, breathtaking views, and delicious food, look no further than this restaurant. The staff was incredibly attentive and accommodating, making our visit truly special. The sunset waterfront view was simply stunning and definitely worth the wait. My daughter had a blast hunting for seashells on the beach while we awaited our meal. And when the food finally arrived, we were blown away. The menu was full of fun and unique options that truly impressed us. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor. I highly recommend this restaurant for a truly unforgettable dining experience

This was hands down the BEST food/seafood I've ever had! This place is a gem! The oysters were fresh and super clean! The fish, shrimp and gator tail were all phenomenal and the drinks were delicious! We had outstanding service as well! And did i mention the atmosspere? Breathtaking! We have found a new spot to eat when visiting St. Augustine! Definitely a must try!

We really enjoyed dinner there last night. Service was exceptional from the valet to our server, Sierra. The food was amazing and delivered promptly, the sunset view was spectacular, and the ambiance was perfect. My only suggestion on improvement would be to add mist fans similar to what they have on the Las Vegas Strip. It was a little muggy. If there had been more of a breeze or better fans, we would have stayed longer, ordered dessert, and another co*cktail or two.

Depending on how busy they are, choose the very large outdoor seating area facing the water. You can dine while watching the sunset and the boats parade about in front of you. Our entrees were the Atlantic Bass, fresh catch, served on creamy mashed potatoes and Fried Shrimp. Outstanding flavor, they don't accept reservations so come early.

First of all the restaurant is in a great location on the water with a perfect view of the sunset! Brandon was our server and he was TOP NOTCH! He was very attentive and made excellent recommendations. Our group had the grilled vegetables platter, bread basket with honey butter and herb butter, fresh catch Ahi tuna and Grouper. Everything was delicious!

Wow! Wine prices are amazing. Food is some of the best we have had in a long time. Don’t miss out on the garlic oysters and herb crusted grouper. Service was so special - Glennie not only was overly attentive but went out of her way to make sure everything was to our liking. If you’re local or out of town, this place is a must.

Wonderful, romantic, place on the water. Service was the best ever. Sydney and Jessica took care of us. Valet parking. How cool is that. Drive up and go eat. We had vanilla grouper and free desert. My birthday. Highly recommend

Val V — Google review

Great place for outdoor drinks and dinner overlooking the water. Valet parking only which is very easy. Arrived about 6:30 on a Thursday and had a short 30 minute wait. Seated in about 20 minutes. Several selections of craft beer which were local which is nice. Food is outstanding. Fresh, plentiful and served quickly. Service by Sean was superb. Not rushed, answered all our questions and was professional. We'll definitely be back.

Food was just okay. For the price I definitely expected a bit moreWe got the She crab soup and Tuna tartar app.The soup has broken so the texture was definitely off but you could tell the flavor was on the right track. The Tuna was very fresh tasting but lacked on the flavor... Needed some saltService was tough to give a one because most of the servers were hustling and looked to be doing very well. However, our server didn't quite have the same attitude. She was nice but didn't really check in much.Main courses were okay. Crushed fish and seafood pastaFor the price I will likely not return

This was a last minute decision. A storm came through and since we would have to drive anywhere anyway we decided to go to Cap's. This place has such a great atmosphere, the staff were nice. The food was absolutely delicious. We can't stop talking about it.After dinner the storm has blown over and we were able to check out the outside dining/bar area. It was absolutely beautiful and we hope when we go back we can sit out there. Definitely a place to put on your list of places to eat!

Delicious small dinner for us this evening. She Crab Soup, Fried Plantains, and Calamari. Our waitress was awesome. The new changes are very nice and there’s plenty of space between tables.I do miss the shell chandeliers as they did lend to the waterfront atmosphere.

Cap's was highly recommended to me by a few friends. For whatever reason, I was a bit skeptical that it would live up to its billing. It actually far exceeded my expectations. I had the Sea Bass and it was wonderful. My wife had the Grouper and it was also excellent. All of the side dishes were fresh and very well prepared. The service was friendly and attentive. co*cktails were on point. Outdoor seating is fabulous. I will absolutely come here again when I'm in the area.

Amazing service and breathtaking view. Seating areas are not crowded. They have heater outside if you prefer outdoors and offer bug spray if needed. We didn’t have any problem and just had to move in a covered area because of the weather. Very nice bar area. The main food is okay is on the sweeter side but the most we enjoyed are the appetizers. Their special crab leg appetizer is probably one of the best we have tried, very fresh.

Recently visited Caps with friends for dinner. They highly recommended the restaurant based on fantastic food, views, and service. Our evening there did not disappoint. When we arrived there was a 30 minute wait (they don't take reservations); however the time flew by as we sat on their expansive partially covered dock overlooking the intercostal with a server at the ready to take our drink orders. We chatted and enjoyed a co*cktail while we waited. The next thing we knew, our table was ready, and it was right along the water. We had a great meal of oyster rockefeller, scallops, crusted salmon, and crusted sheepshead along with another round of drinks. Our server was kind and attentive. The valet parking is a nice touch as well. We would definitely come back. Thanks!

Lovely water view! Wait can be long. Great service even though they were very busy. Had pan seared fish. It was delicious. Drinks were very good. Carrots needed to be cooked a little more. Tried to cut off a bite(only had a butter knife) and the carrot flew off my plate. Sunset is beautiful.

This has been the best food and service we’ve had after spending a month in St.Augustine. The views are amazing with the spanish moss hanging from the massive tree over you or the sunset on the water due to the direction the deck faces. Our waitress super professional, friendly and helpful. We arrived early for the best seat in the house (in our opinion!). Be there for sunset! My partner loved the Belgian fries (he is Belgian!)

I literally fell in LOVE for this place. There is an amazing view, staff are very nice, and food is delicious! We tried for the first time alligator and it was good, what amazed me was jambalaya, vegetables were crunchy, while shrimps and sausages were very tasty. It is a great place to go to, I strongly recommend it!

What can I say! Hidden gem. The food was chef’s kiss! Enjoyed our tenth year anniversary and would return just to experience this place again! The servers are awesome and so caring and attentive!

We’ve eaten at great restaurants across the US, Hawaii, and Europe.Cap’s has wonderful food, great location, and a unique vibe. We ate here 30 years ago pre-kids, when it was a dock and some tables in the sand. It’s grown immensely since then, but it retains its charm and attention to detail with food and service. It’s a highly memorable experience in addition to great food. Can’t recommend enough. Special thanks to Kara (spelling?).

Went here for the 1st time on 5.5.24. Place has nice atmosphere right on the water. Lots of outdoor patio tables prices are VERY expensive. limited menu. (Mostly seafood.)Service was good. People were friendly. Food came out fast. Parking lot was kind of chaotic. It was valet only. Nice place, well run, but i will not go back. It was fun once.

Beau — Google review

First time visit for most of my party and before you make it in to their lot, you're already annoyed. This place is valet only and the valet line is long. This place is packed on a Saturday and the parking situation shows it.The service was really good as was the food and location on the water.

Another great meal! Food is delicious, service outstanding, and ambience of the river view breathtaking.****************************Eating here was a real treat. The food, service, and atmosphere were all top notch. We came here for our date night dinner before catching a show at the Limelight, and were very pleased.I don't really care for valet parking, but that is the only option here because they get very crowded and the valets are able to make sure all the space is optimized, which I get. I will say these guys were very efficient in both taking the car and returning it quickly.I understand why they can get very crowded! There is large covered outside deck area overlooking the Tolomato River, and the sunset views are highly coveted to accompany a delicious meal. The river views are beautiful, and there is even a dock where boat driving diners may "park" and have a meal. The bayou gumbo was a large portion of amazing flavor, accompanied by a wonderful homemade corn muffin. The spice and flavors were perfectly balanced and honestly I could have made a meal from this alone. We also tried the garlic oysters which were also outstanding. For mains we had the key lime shrimp and roasted vegetables with blackened grouper. Both were fantastic, full of flavor and very fresh. The menu is full of wonderful sounding dishes and we can't wait to return to try something else!Pro tip: They do not accept reservations, so depending on when you arrive and the weather you may have a wait ahead of you!
