For my freshmen year at Southern Miss I was, as many other first year students, nervous and excited for what the semester would bring. During football season, it seemed like there was so much life and good vibes throughout the campus, as well as so many organizations and clubs that were available for any student to participate in. The campus itself is beautiful, I love its appearance and how easy it is to walk around campus without getting too lost. The staff and professors I have encountered are amazing and they are always there to help, you just need to ask. One thing I would like to see more is an effort for the cafeteria to have better food, however the food I ate this past year was pretty alright. I’m going into my sophom*ore year this year and I am so excited to see my friends and make new ones!

The University of Southern Miss is a great college as everyone there from the professors to the students make you feel welcome. You can tell the professors care about each individual’s education and comprehension of a subject. Even with a big campus it’s smaller than most colleges which goes for the classroom too, which is a great thing! There’s time to tend to most if not all students! Finding yourself and your crowd is easy too as they have different groups, activities, and events to ensure everyone gets their fair share of fun outside of the classroom. Everyone with different backgrounds and aesthetics mix and mingle. USM is the home away from home!

The University of Southern Mississippi is a smaller campus but still big enough to meet new people everyday and also run into some familiar faces. It’s pretty easy to feel included or to get included due to various organization events around campus. The housing is pretty good as the quality of the buildings are not too terrible. However, the lack of affordable off-campus housing makes it hard to live in Hattiesburg without financial help from others. Other than that, on campus housing is pretty standard and feels safe. There may be some trouble however finding parking near your dorm if you don’t live by the parking garage. Lastly, the food on campus and near campus is pretty good. It doesn’t take long to get to and is not hard to access either. USM is truly the most diverse school than others in Mississippi with the student population, in professors not so much. As I have found trouble finding black professors to connect with on campus as a black student.
