Friday I'm at SXSW, I'm presenting with Oracle Healthcare on improving care delivery via tech. Sat, I get to attend the movie premiere of My Dead Friend Zoe. Two of my best friends, Ray Maiello & Mike Field produced it, putting a lot on the line. Producing a movie is a lot like getting a startup off the ground with the financial, reputational risk + execution. Good Luck and excited to be part of the launch!They helped recruit Sonequa Martin-Green, Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris, and Natalie Morales as cast. They raised typical 'angel' dollars from 'friends, fools, and family!'....along the way Travis Kelce invested in the movie (pre Taylor)...adding to the buzz and excitement..and viabilty. They squeaked in filming just before the Hollywood actor's strike, negotiated rights and submitted to SXSW. Let's hope it's well received on Sat....fingers crossed on their 'product launch'!However, this is just fueling the Hollywood buzz/media machine. The real story is the director, Kyle Haussman-Stokes, is an Iraq vet who lost buddies in the war. The movie is based upon vets returning home, dealing with PTSD, depression, group therapy…and healing. The cast signed on (Morgan Freeman is a Korean war vet) to highlight these societal challenges. It serves as a reminder to all of us the sacrifices our troops make. My dad spent 20yrs in Navy, flew in Vietnam war, and is buried in Arlington. My bro flew choppers in Army (now he's in Baghdad, formerly in Afghanistan). Field and I grew up together in VA Beach in military families and surrounded by the patriotism, duty, commitment and sacrifice of service. I hope everyone enjoys the movie. More importantly, I hope everyone takes a moment to thank our troops and veterans and support their transitions to civilian life with love, honor & respect.https://lnkd.in/gRVNXDxG
